Still remember this?
“Nanay Tatay gusto kong tinapay. Ate Kuya gusto kong kape. Lahat ng gusto ko ay susundin nyo…”
That’s the generation before iPad, gadgets, candy crush, txt msg, etc.
I know it’s just a song. A simple kid’s game.
But, I’ll put deeper meaning into it.
Itong kantang ito ay kanta ng mga spoiled brats.
In our “pangong ilong” culture, it’s ok for adult children to still live in their parents’ house.
Minsan pa nga, may sarili ng pamilya pero naka-tira pa rin sa bahay ng parents nya.
We spoil our kids.
Unfortunately, there’s a drawback with this.
These Children think life is easy because…”nandyan naman si Tatay e.”
Or “Uutang na lang ako kay mommy.”
Do you get the point?
Instead of maturing early and fast these children are trying to take the easy way out.
Ang resulta?
They become irresponsible, immature, and lazy.
I have two kids, third one is coming this December, so I know the feeling.
But there has to be a clear line between “loving our kids” vs. “spoiling our kids.”
Spoiling them is like telling them “life is easy.”
Is life easy? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
We know that “Life is hard.” And preparing them in life is the best gift we can give to our Children.
Like in sports, if you train hard, the game will be easier.
And that’s what we need to do. Prepare them in life.
And that’s what many successful Chinese business people do.
Bata pa anak nila, pinagbabantay na sa tindahan.
That’s why many Chinese are good in business.
That’s why six of the top ten Billionaire in the Philippines are Chinese.
Not because they’re smarter than us.
But because they’re trained early in life.
Best thing in business is, you can still play the game even if you think you’re old or you don’t have much money.
You don’t need a degree, good looks, wealth, or influence to succeed.
It all begins with one small step towards your dream to become an Entrepreneur.
That small seed of faith. That small seed of desire.
That’s enough start-up capital to begin with.

Good Day Jon:
I’ve been reading your article here in my email and I find it interesting, now in business I planned to open up a big one, that I thought of will generate possible income to me and my family same time to the people who will be with me. I’ve done the paper works, research and documentation but still it is hard to take off, I don’t know the reason, was it too big, too expensive, was it not the time yet I don’t know, I have been talking to a lot of people Investors, consultants, banks mostly given me advise but some are positive about it. It’s been a long time and I am still waiting for the right time if there will ever be.
What do you think I should do.
Jon Oraña says
Hi Daniel.
I have a feeling that you’re in a “Analysis Paralysis” mode.
Really, the only way to prove a product or business will work is by going out there and sell it.
Feedback from bankers, friends, etc. are ok. BUT they’re not your customers.
The only valid feedback are from your paying customers.
So my advice is go out there and sell it.
Marco says
Just a thought of this article about living with your parents, etc. First of all Chinese are close family ties, they don’t want to leak out from their clan any wealth that they have that’s why most of their marriages are fixed and most of them are still living with their family. That’s where we Filipinos got the culture of extended family. Second, if you’re living with your parents doesn’t mean that you’re lazy, there are just reasons and one of them is you’re the bread winner of the family even though you have your own family already. Third, there are Filipino children who are not spoiled but instead forced to work as early as their childhood. Now who’s lazy and who’s a spoiled brat?
Jen says
Balak ko pong magtibda ng peanut butter at mushroom burger, paano ba magtinda online kase konti lang po yun kapitbahay namin?
Jethro says
I think you have a point and that’s why Chinese people are the one dominating the market (it’s only my opinion. I’m not saying that they are only people who can become rich. We too, can be rich if we learn from them).
Anyway, I’m excited to get your products Jon. It seems that you know what you are saying and doing. I hope I can buy those next month (August). 🙂

I just recently retired (early) from airlines and have decided to go back to my home province n start a business for a transient 6room mini studio apartel. Plan to make each room aircon, with TV and with toilet n bath. Construction is almost 75percent complete…but I suddenly thinking if I make the 2big rooms as boarding house rooms (monthly rental eg. 1room is good for 4-5persons monthly rental is 5-6k).: And keep the 3(upstairs) as transient rooms on a daily rate. He front room facing the street is reserved for a business space rental…What do you think ??.. Aside from this I am building a small kitchen resto (not high end) with a Korean and Pinoy dish… Appreciate your advice please. Thank you.

Hi Jon, yes I think your story is very true. To teach our kids to be mature and independent, we have to teach them early in life. Even if you can afford to give them what they ask for, trying to withhold from them is not much.
They will value things more if they don’t get them too easy.
Thanks.

sir jon,
alam ko po na alam na alam nyo ang ginagawa at sinasabi nyo. kasi nga po ito na ang negosyo ninyo for the past years as you said (business coaching and selling digital products- and you earned a lot of money).
hindi po lahat ng tao ay nakalaang magnegosyo. some are destined to rot in the corporate world- kahit masakit yan po ang katotohanan. kasi nga choice nila yun. i admit i don’t like my job but i learned to love it kasi it’s my bread and butter.
good thing is my desire to start a business is not waning. it’s always in my veins though i don’t know how to start.
next time sir pag open na ulit ang IBMC nyo i will try my best na makapag-enroll. i really want to venture in the e-book business na ina-advocate ninyo. sana bumaba na ang presyo ng master class po ninyo. hihi…

Hi Sir John,
I already bought one of your product, the Internet Lifestyle Business and it’s really an eye opener. Upon seeing that I lay out a plan for me and my wife on how to transition from being an Employee to become an Entrepreneur. The first thing I did to learn everything about online business is transition first from Employee to be a freelancer. being a freelancer gave me the time and knowledge on to learn and gave me idea how to really start this business with the help of you and sir Fitz Villafuerte’s guidance. I just not enrolled to your IBMC class yet since were still on the transition from Employee to becoming a Freelancer. once I begin my transition from freelancing to online business begin, I hope your IBMC is still there for me. Godbless and more power to Negosyo University.
