After a year or so (2005) I lost my cafe-grill due to lack of planning and capital. But my pregnant ideas of culinary (then) were people raised their brows (i.e. tuyo pasta & salted eggs…chocolate bagoong siding of a pakbet salad among the many) is prolific nowadays…..
At present, a friend bought our old family house and plans to convert it to a bistro… but i feel is out of the way yet just a stone’s throw away from the beach…..
Question:
1. is the plan to put it up insane
2. i learned from that mistake yet failure jitters (which swept my capital clean) is real
3. my friend believes in my culinary ability and capability as a known individual in our city
I need your two cents worth.
i need a shout out.
thanks.

Hi Geri.
Here are some advice that I can give you.
Is the plan good or not? Only you and your partner can tell you that. But to increase your chance of succeeding, better research your market. Normally, there’s a one mile radius market from the point where you’ll put up your restaurant. Check out if your restaurant will serve your market within one mile based on your price points, food, theme, etc.
Don’t be in love with your products or ideas, be in love in your market or people that you’ll serve.
Never invest everything that you have in one business. The truth is, you may fail again and you need some extra money to try it again.
Lastly, it’s ok to have fear but don’t let it paralyze you instead use fear to help you be a smarter entrepinoy by preparing and planning well.

I am already 46 years old and is about to avail of the early retirement benefit of the company where I worked for almost 10 years now. Luckily I have come across your FB page and followed you for 2 weeks now. Mukhang marami pa nga pala akong dapat matutunan. I plan to have my own business after retiring next year. Medyo wala pa nga lang akong desisyon on what business should I venture into. Please continue your podcast as this is in a way might helping me decide and marami akong natutunan. Ironically, I am an Agri-business graduate from some Agricultural college here in Pampanga and I ended up working for somebody instead of doing my own business. So what happened to me? Ayun taga- “London” din. Loan dito loan doon, hehehe. I want to change that, nakakasawa na. I hope it’s not too late. Thanks and God bless you more, John.

I strongly suggest that you start a business now while you still have income coming from your job. Truth be told, hindi lahat ng negosyo e nagtatagumpay. Mahirap kung malugi ang business at wala ka ng ibang source of income. I call this approach “Cautious Entrepreneurship”. I have a training course for that. Just go to my product section.

Hi Jon. I’m 53 yrs old. I worked in big electronics & semiconductor manufacturing companies way back & travel almost around USA & Asia as an Engineer & Manager of these firms. The last company I joined had to cut down manpower due to short production demands and I was one of those who were laid off. I put up my own business, a travel agency but after 8 years of operation, I decided to stop it because it’s just eating my savings. Right now, I am working in a new Insurance company that though commission is good, I feel, I do not really belong in this kind of business. I read your article about finding out what really is in store for me or where I am good at. But until now I cannot say where it is that I really would like to do. Pls help me find the best career for me.
