Hi Jon,
I listened to some of your podcast and I’m glad you had the time to record those updates. I started my restaurant and corporate giveaways businesses last 2009. Unfortunately it was destroyed by flood and my capital went to waste. I wish to become a successful businesswoman, what’s lacking is a sense of direction and capitalization. I cant afford to make a loan and later find out that the business will be a flop. I’m hoping that you could guide me step by step on a feasible business ideas to start with.
Jon Oraña says
Hi Jean.
First, despite of what happened don’t think that you’re starting from scratch again. You’re not the same Jean now compare to who you were before you start you start your restaurant business. You’re now smarter and you know more on how to start and run a business.
If you don’t have capital, start with what you have. Your network, knowledge, skills, experience, education, etc.
Don’t let cash or capital stop you from pursuing your dream business.
Life is too short to spend in the job that you hate.

hi jon
I’m a single woman I’m 31 yrs old. I’m feel hopeless to myself because I have no job. not improving my career up to now. Im a jobless person. I try to apply in different field but suddenly it’s a short period. of time. I don’t know where is my problem maybe myself. Jon can you help me in my situation. At my age i’m still hopeless, jobless. I want to try business but how? I have no capital in business. And how i start business can you help me. Thanks.!!! god bless.
Jon Oraña says
Hi Dona.
As long as you’re still breathing there’s still hope.
The fact that you can read, write, browse the Internet, you have more opportunities compare to people that are uneducated and don’t have Internet access.
Think about it.
In business, focus on what you can give to people. If you approach business with “how can I make money”, the harder it is to make money.
But if your mindset is “how can I help other people?”, money will follow. Find business opportunities that can genuinely help other people.
Focus on what you have and not on what you don’t have.
Denisse Ryan says
Hi,
I am jobless for a year and a half now. I started to venture in baking, because i love baking. I started attending classes a few weeks after I returned in the country. but baking business has its low as well. i only make cakes and cupcakes when i have orders. right now, im thinking of something to earn while i still have zero orders on cakes. I am thinking of going to home care cleaning products, like making fabric conditioners, dishwashing liquid, bleach, and even detergent powder. what troubles me is, what if it doesn’t click? i am willing to attend the seminar on how to do these things..but the thing is i am runnning out of capital as well. Is it right to just to start in two things first wherein i dont have to spend much on raw materials? thanks.
Jon Oraña says
Hi Denisse.
Instead of going to a new business, which I assume you don’t have business experience, why not focus on growing your existing business?
In business, you can’t wait for people to come to you. You have to pursue them.
Study how other successful baking businesses do it. How they attract more customers? How they increase the transaction value? How they make their customers to return more often?
Marketing your business is the real issue here.
Remember, it’s not your customer’s job to remember you. It’s your job so they won’t forget you.

Hi Jon,
Your emails are very interesting and I love reading it. In fact, my dream of having my own business has come to alive again after reading your articles. Im a bank employee for more than 10 yrs and deep inside, this is not really my niche.
My question is how can i start my own business without taking risk of losing my income if I quit my job? For how long should i continue my job and aftr which quit if my business is still testing the waters?
Hope to hear your reply soon. Thanks and more power. God bless.
Jon Oraña says
You’ll not quit your job unless your business is stable. How long? I don’t know. Only you can tell if your business is stable or not.

hi jon, i am a tv journalist for more than 2 decades now, presently i’m working at a local radio station here in cebu city. year 2007 i was kicked out from my job. i was 42 years old then, so i was so scared, i have 2 college students during that time. then a friend of mine and a colleague advised me to pursue my talent in video production. so we became instant partners then, creating corporate video prod, weddings and etc. and finally a 30 minute once a week motocross tv show. year 2010 i was hired to supervised a newscast in a local tv network and presently i managed a radio station. i do the news editing for tv and news for radio. but i still dream of having my own video production business and an interactive internet/website for news. but the lack of equipment prevented me in pursuing my dream. is it advisable if i will look for business partners to fund my dream business. thanks
Jon Oraña says
When starting your own business, it doesn’t mean you have to go on your own. Hindi naman kailangan partner kayo, but you can have like a “commission based” partnership. Meaning, the company is yours and then share lang muna kayo sa profit. This way, once you decided to completely to go solo, wala kang obligation to anyone.

Hi Jon! Im Paula currently working as police officer here in Masbate. I really wanted to try again in buisness a different buisness which I had before. Ive tried 4MLM/networking but I failed because I am assigned anywhere I cant focus to selling and to communicate since it requires time to talk to different people and to sell products. As of now im on direct selling but its unstable. I want to have a part time buisness that could help me to start again and not to rely in my employment. I want to retire young. I am 25 years old looking for great opportunity in buisness world so that I can go back to my hometown and to be with my family soon.. Any suggestion? How? Thank you!
Raymond Tabaque says
Seriously, tanong lang. You’re strongly encouraging from your main product “quit thy corporate job and be a businessman” as if it’s the only successful way to go in order to be financially stable.
If every corporate, factory, production, and all kinds of 9-5 employees would quit their jobs and be a businessman, I certainly feel that there would be a big impact on our economy in that case. Workers shortage, because everybody in the future will choose to be an entrepreneur rather than being an employee.
Upon buying your product, I got to read and listen on all of your training modules and etc, now I’m thinking i’d be starting a business, a production business perhaps in the future where I would require to hire employees for my business to grow and expand further in the future.
Now at some point in the future, my employees happen to be interested in your product and decided to buy from you, and then soon enough, they will resign from being an employee from my “company” business.
🙂
Let that sink in for a minute
Jon Oraña says
Business is not for everyone. So as being an employee, a dentist, teacher, engineer, etc. 🙂

It started 2010. But to date it doomed to fail. How will be able to pursue it? Any suggestion of a mentor for TODDLERS CARE/ CHILD CARE? Or the same business whom I can benchmark with?
Please help. Thanks and God bless!

I’m a ofw seaman and I’m really want to start my own business. coz im tired of pabalik balik sa barko and lagi na lng nauubos ung naipon KO Sa everyday expenses by the way I’m family man with 3 son.I’m working 4 months on 2 months off .actually I do some seminar Sa owwa about the reintegration program that a ofw can have a loan to put up their own business. i already started to complete some requirements ang problema eto na naman.paalis na ako hang na naman ung mga Plano ko Di naman pwede Di ako sumakay dahil I to ang hanapbuhay KO Sa ngayun.Sa to too lng ang buhay isang seaman pakiramdam ko is just like you are in a big sindicate na pag umalis ka ay mamatay ka .he he.I really serious to start a business dahil pangarap KO talaga and gusto KO syempre palakihin ung mga anak KO na kasama ako at makikita KO silang lumalaki.hope you can give me the best advice
Renato says
I have a small scale gold mining business in mindanao and my financers are ofws in saudi. Just like you as a seaman, you dont have to be physically present to do business, just be a small financial contributor so you can have a share in the business. when the income share you are receiving is more than the income from being a seaman then you can quit your job and concentrate on doing your dream business using the income from your investment as capital.

Good day sir! Really helpful podcast, I’m just confuse about the thought of being cautious vs overcoming procrastination. Right now my plan is to raise enough fund to start my own business, because we can’t deny the fact that, it takes money to make money right? Please enlighten me with this, thank you and God bless!
Jon Oraña says
Hi Maria. You have to break the idea that “it takes money to make money.” If you keep telling that to yourself, you’ll always be in search for fund. Specially with technology, you can start a business with “sweat” equity. I started my Internet biz with P500 to buy a domain name.
Cautious Entrepreneurship isn’t procrastination. You’re simply taking calculated risks.

Hi Jon,
Im currently running a laundry business w/c started oct 2014. Since that time I haven’t really made any profit yet. Just enough to pay the 18k space rent. Sometimes break-even, sometimes may out-of-pocket pa meaning “abono”. is it the right time for me to transfer to an affordable rent? I already established regular customers thats why i felt nanghihinayang if i were to close the business or transfer in a different location. Many are telling me that the rent in this building is really high thats why umaalis lahat ng business owners coz they fail.
I need your advice. Thanks!

Great podcast, Jon! Sharing the value of simply deciding to “break away from it” (and make things happen) is powerful! Love and blessings to you and your loved ones.
